The All India Law Entrance Test, or AILET 2022 is conducted by the National Law University, Delhi every year, for admission to the aforementioned prestigious institution. AILET 2022 will be held on May 1, 2022. The application process will begin from the first week of January, 2022, as per the notice released by the university. The same is available at the end of this post.
Who is Eligible FOR AILET 2022?
For the 5-year integrated programme, candidates who have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised institution or board with a minimum of 45% marks are eligible. The eligibility criteria for SC, ST, and PWD candidates is a minimum of 40% marks.
What is the exam pattern for AILET 2022?
AILET 2022 will be conducted in an offline mode (until further notice). The exam will have a total of 150 multiple-choice questions, to be solved in one and a half hours, i.e. 90 minutes. One mark will be awarded for correct answers, and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong one. There will be five sections in the exam- English, Legal Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Mathematics, and General Knowledge.
What is the syllabus for AILET 2022?
English
In this section, there will be 35 multiple-choice questions. Unlike CLAT, not all of them will be passage-based. Some might be, but questions will also be asked from various other sources like vocabulary, grammar, synonyms and antonyms, parajumbles, sentence rearrangement, etc. So, make sure that you practise all such topics as well.
Legal Aptitude
In this section, there will be 35 questions. These questions test a candidate’s ability to apply a given principle to a fact situation, and their legal knowledge. So, questions can be in the form of a principle-fact scenario, or related to current legal events like recent judgements of the Supreme court and High courts, recent amendments and laws, etc. For principle-fact questions, a candidate needs to go through the important topics from Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Law of Torts, Contracts Law, Family Law, Intellectual Property law, etc. An important tip is to not use additional knowledge in such questions, always rely on the principles given, even if they seem wrong.
Logical Reasoning
In the 35 questions of this section, a candidate’s analytical and critical reasoning skills will be tested. Questions can range from topics like Logical conclusions, inferences, arguments that weaken or strengthen the main argument and syllogisms, to Blood relations, clocks, directions, number series, and analogies. Thus, unlike CLAT which focuses heavily on the critical reasoning aspect of Logical Reasoning, AILET asks both critical reasoning and analytical.
Elementary Mathematics
While this section only has 10 questions, it can be a very scoring one. Questions will be asked from elementary mathematics topics, like percentage, ratio and proportion, simple and compound interest, averages, profit, loss and discount, time and work, and time, speed and distance. Many candidates choose to leave this section entirely, mainly due to the paucity of time. So, practise shortcuts and simple calculation tricks to help you complete the questions in a lesser amount of time. This will help you gain an advantage over the other candidates.
General Knowledge
Again one of the most scoring sections, this can help you get an easy 35 marks if you read and revise current affairs regularly. In addition, Static GK should also be practised, as AILET tests that as well. The important topics that should be looked into are National events or news, International relations, Sports, Important awards, and miscellaneous topics like Books and Authors, and Art and Culture. A tip for this section would be that whenever you are reading a news event for the Current Affairs section, go through its static portion immediately after that. This will ensure that for every current affairs topic that you complete, you will complete the static part as well. For example, when you read about the OSCARS awarded in 2021, also read about when it started, the first movie that got the Best Picture award, the first woman director to win Best Director, etc.
Practise as many mock tests as you can, to get a better idea of the exam pattern and the types of questions asked. Try to set sectional time-limits, and follow them strictly, while keeping a few minutes as buffer time as well.
All the best!
