About CLAT

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)is a national-level entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 22 National Law Universities in India.
CLAT is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities, comprising representative universities.
Several affiliate universities and organizations also use the CLAT exam for admissions and recruitment respectively.
All admissions to the 5-year integrated L.L.B. and LL..M. programmes that commence in the Academic Year 2024-2025 shall be through the CLAT 2024 Exam to be conducted in December 2023.

Mode of the Exam

The CLAT exam will be held in offline mode through pen and paper based test mode. The exam will be held in over 127 exam centers across the country.

How to Apply?

The CLAT application form 2024 will be released on the official website – consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The notification of CLAT exam 2024 is likely to be released in the first week of August 2023.

Duration

The CLAT exam will comprise of a total 150 questions and candidates will be given time of two hours to complete the exam.

About CLAT UG

A total of 150 questions are asked in CLAT UG. Let us look at a section-wise breakdown of these questions:
  • English Language: 28-32 questions
  • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: 35-39 questions
  • Legal Reasoning: 35-39 questions
  • Logical Reasoning: 28-32 questions
  • Quantitative Techniques: 13-17 questions

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT UG

  • There is be no upper age limit for candidates appearing for UG Programme through the CLAT 2024.
  • Candidates must secure the following minimum percentage of marks in their qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination):
  • Forty five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories
  • Forty Percent (40%) marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
  • Candidates who may be appearing for their qualifying examination in March/ April, 2023 are also eligible to appear for the CLAT 2024 examination. However, they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.

  • Exam Date: December 2023
  • The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission, failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the course they may have applied for.
  • If more than one candidate secures an equal number of marks in the CLAT 2023, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
    • Higher marks in the component/section on Legal Aptitude in the CLAT 2023 exam;
    • Higher age;
    • Computerised draw of lots.
