How to prepare for NLAT?
The subjects involved in this paper are the same as CLAT.
The students who have prepared well for the Common Law Admission Test need not worry about the inclusion of new subjects.
On the lines of CLAT, even NLAT has all the questions based on passages.
However, there are a few things that you must consider in the few days you have left.
- The number of questions: There is a huge difference in the number of questions between NLAT and CLAT. CLAT will have around 150 questions whereas NLAT will only have 40.
- Marks per question: CLAT carries one mark per question whereas NLAT will carry 2 marks per question. Thereby bringing the total number of questions to 40 and total marks to 80.
- Every Passage will have 2 questions from each subject. Each passage will carry 10 questions.
- Duration is only 45 minutes which gives you approximately 1 minute per question.
Therefore the following may be done to increase the chances of selection.
- If you have been developing your reading speed, Great! If not, try reading 500 words at a time and retain the gist of the paragraphs in a single quick read.
- Read the questions first. No, do not study them in detail. Read them just enough to keep in mind which parts of the passage you have to concentrate on while skimming.
- Attempt all questions since there is negative marking for a wrong answer and for skipping a question. Therefore it is in your best interest to NOT leave a single question in the exam. However, the negative for a wrong answer is 0.50 and for not answering is 0.25 so be careful while making this choice.
Things to do before NLAT
