How to Prepare for CLAT 2027 in One Year
If you are preparing for CLAT 2027, scheduled for December 2026, you are starting at the right time. One full year gives you space to understand the exam, build skills gradually, and avoid last-minute panic. The key is not studying endlessly, but studying systematically.
CLAT is a comprehension-based exam. It tests how well you read, think, and apply logic under time pressure. This roadmap breaks the year into three clear phases: Foundation, Consolidation, and Mock-Test Phase, along with a realistic weekly plan.
Phase 1: Foundation Building
Month 1 to Month 4
This phase is about building strong basics and study habits. Do not worry about scores yet. Focus on learning how CLAT works.
Objectives of this Phase
- Build daily reading habits
- Understand basic concepts in all sections
- Get comfortable with passage-based questions
Section-wise Focus
- Legal Reasoning: Start with basic legal principles and simple passages. Learn how principles are applied to facts. Focus on understanding, not speed.
- Logical Reasoning: Work on argument-based questions. Practice identifying conclusions, assumptions, and reasoning errors. Accuracy matters more than quantity here.
- English Language: Read daily. Editorials, opinion articles, and long-form pieces should be non-negotiable. Practice inference, tone-based, and vocabulary-in-context questions.
- Current Affairs and GK: Follow one newspaper consistently. Make weekly notes. Focus on major national and international events, legal news, and government schemes.
- Quantitative Techniques: Revise basics like percentages, ratios, averages, and data interpretation. Practice small sets regularly to avoid fear of the section.
Weekly Study Plan
- Study 5 to 6 days a week
- 4 to 5 hours per day is enough
- Daily reading for at least 60 minutes
- Concept learning plus passage practice
- One sectional test per week
- Weekly revision of mistakes and notes
Phase 2: Consolidation and Skill Development
Month 5 to Month 8
This is where your preparation becomes exam-oriented. You already know the basics. Now you focus on strengthening weak areas and improving performance.
Objectives of this Phase
- Improve accuracy and time management
- Handle moderate to difficult passages
- Start full-length mock tests
Section-wise Focus
- Legal and Logical Reasoning: Increase difficulty level. Practice mixed question sets. Learn option elimination and smart guessing. Start working on time-bound practice.
- English Language: Work on speed without losing comprehension. Focus on inference-heavy passages and revise common mistakes.
- Current Affairs and GK: Start revising older months regularly. Link current affairs with static topics like polity, international relations, and legal developments.
- Quantitative Techniques: Practice full DI sets under time limits. Identify which questions to attempt and which to skip.
Mock Test Strategy
- Start with one full-length mock every two weeks
- Do not judge yourself by scores initially
- Spend more time analysing the mock than attempting it
- Identify patterns in your mistakes
Weekly Study Plan
- One mock every 10 to 14 days
- Sectional practice on non-mock days
- One full day only for mock analysis
- Continued daily reading and GK revision
Phase 3: Mock-Test and Performance Phase
Month 9 to Month 12
This phase is about consistency, confidence, and exam temperament. You are no longer learning new concepts. You are learning how to perform under pressure.
Objectives of this Phase
- Maximise mock performance
- Finalise exam-day strategy
- Strengthen revision
What to Focus on
Mocks become central
- One mock per week initially
- Two mocks per week in the last two months
- Simulate exam conditions seriously
Exam strategy
- Decide section order
- Fix time limits per section
- Learn when to leave difficult passages
Current Affairs revision
- Revise monthly notes multiple times
- Prepare short revision sheets for the last month
- Avoid adding new resources or topics too late. Trust your preparation.
Weekly Study Plan
- One to two mocks per week
- Detailed mock analysis
- Light sectional practice
- Regular GK revision
