- Square of a number with unit digit 5: It is extremely easy to find the square of a number that has 5 in its unit digit, without actually solving it on pen and paper. For example- what will be the square of 85? Follow this two-step method to find the answer.i) Square the unit digit 5= 25.ii) Multiple the tens digit 8 with the number succeeding it= 8*9= 72.Therefore, the square of 85= 7225.
- Multiplication of numbers from 11 to 19: To multiply such numbers easily, follow this simple 4-step methodTake two numbers, for example- 12 and 15.i) Add the unit digit of the smaller number to the larger= 2 + 15= 17.ii) Multiply the result with 10= 170.iii) Multiply the unit digits of both the numbers= 2*5= 10.iv) Add both the numbers= 170 + 10= 180.This is the answer!
- Division of a large number by 5: To divide a large number by 5, follow this extremely easy 2-step method. For example- 493/5.i) Multiply this number by 2= 493*2= 986.ii) Move the decimal point one place left= 98.6. And this is the answer!
- Square of a number:
- Take, for example, a number such as 67.How to get the square of this number easily?i) Take a base number= 100.ii) What is the difference of the original number from the base?= 67 – 100= (-33).iii) Add this difference to the original number= 67 + (-33)= 34 iv) Multiply the result with the base number= 34*100= 3400.v) Add the step 4 result with the square of the difference= 3400 + (-33*-33)= 3400 + 1089= 4489.And this is your answer!
- Multiplication of two-digit numbers It is extremely easy to multiply any two digit numbers mentally, without needing a pen and paper! Follow this three-step method. For example- 36*12.Arrange these numbers in a column.3612—i) Multiply the units column= 6*2= 12. Carry the 1 forward. So, 2 is left. ii) Multiply in a cross pattern and add= 6*1 + 3*2= 6+ 6= 12 + the 1 which was forwarded= 13. Carry the one forward. So, 3 is left. iii) Multiply the tens column= 3*1= 3 + the 1 which was forwarded= 4. The answer is 432!
- Subtracting numbers from multiples of 1000 Take any two numbers, such as, 10,00,000- 9,98,554.i) Subtract all the digits except the last one from 9= 001446.Search for more such easy tips and tricks to help you solve questions faster.
