About Lawctopus

Lawctopus.com is India’s most popular and trusted website for law students and young lawyers.
Launched on 27th September 2010  from a hostel room in NUJS Kolkata, Lawctopus now attracts nearly 5 lakh readers to the website every month, with an average reading time of 3 minutes per session. 
We’ve been featured in leading dailies and weeklies like The Telegraph, Economic Times, Careers360, Mint, and India Today.
Our content covers everything students of law require to excel in their careers. 
We publish legal events and opportunities, job posts, occasional blogs and advisory pieces, and internship experiences. 
We also house a dedicated section for CLAT aspirants, CLATalogue.
In March 2020, we launched Lawctopus Law School (LLS), a legal ed-tech platform, which has now served 19000 learners with practical legal learning requirements. Our courses are rated 93.2 /100 on average.

Details About the Essay Competition

Participants are invited to submit original essays on any contemporary legal issue that resonates with the spirit of Indian democracy and independence. The competition seeks to promote analytical writing, independent thought, and legal scholarship.
Selected essays will be published on Academike (ISSN: 2349-9796), which is an online law journal by Lawctopus. Our mission is to publish well-researched, well-written papers and articles. Participation in the competition makes it a great opportunity for young scholars to add a credible academic publication to their profiles.
  • Word Limit: 1200–2000 words (including endnotes)
  • Citation Style: Any standard citation method (preferably Bluebook or ILI)
  • Submission Format: Word Document
  • Co-authorship: Not Allowed

Eligibility

Open to all law students (UG/PG), research scholars, and young legal professionals across India. 

Registration / Submission Procedure

No prior registration is required. Participants can directly submit their essays via the Google Form linked at the end of this post.

Fee Details

There is no registration, no submission, and no publication fee. Participation is completely free of cost.

Prizes (Total Worth ₹25,000)

  • 1st Prize: ₹5000
  • 2nd Prize: ₹3000
  • 3rd Prize: ₹2000
  • LLS Course Discounts worth ₹15,000: Top performers will receive exclusive discount coupons for Lawctopus Law School (LLS) courses worth ₹15,000.
  • Certificates of Merit will be awarded to all selected essays published on Academike (ISSN: 2349-9796).
