Introduction

The CLAT 2024 Exam was conducted on December 3, 2023, from 2PM to 4PM. CLAT 2024 was pen and paper-based.
In this CLAT UG 2024 Paper Analysis, we will go through the section-wise detailed analysis of the paper. Also, we will take a look at the difficulty level of questions, the pattern of the exam, and the weightage of topics.

The CLAT Exam consists of 120 questions that need to be answered in 120 minutes. The paper consisted of 32 pages with many aspirants saying that the paper was lengthy but easy to moderate in nature. Candidates with a decent reading speed and time management skills would have found the paper to be easy to moderate and this points towards a high cut-off score.

CLAT UG 2024 English Section Analysis

There were a total of 24 questions in this section. All questions asked were straightforward, and simple while the passages were of moderate length. There were no vocabulary based questions similar to the trend of past year papers, like CLAT 2022 and CLAT 2021. To secure a decent score, the attempts should be somewhere between 21-23. Based on the difficulty level of this section, a score of 21 or more can be considered decent.
Passage 1: This passage dealt with the interplay between character and setting in literature. This was the shortest paragraph in the section and the questions that followed were direct and simple. Even the options of the questions were identical to that of the passage.
Passage 2: This passage talked about the crisis of justice for the poor sections of society. This passage was of moderate length and the questions needed the students to both understand and draw inference from the passage. The passage and questions asked here were slightly more difficult than the rest of the section.
Passage 3: This passage was extracted from “Fire on the Mountain” written by Anita Desai. The passage was moderate in length and the questions again were directly asked from the passage without adding any layer of complexity at all.
Passage 4: This passage was based on the diversity of English literature. While the passage was short the questions asked were perhaps the easiest and most direct in the entire section.
The section was easy and didn’t need the aspirants to use much of their analytical or comprehension skills as such. The questions asked were pretty straightforward and excluded a huge part of standard type of questions usually asked in the English section.

CLAT UG 2024 Current Affairs Including GK Section Analysis

There were a total of 28 questions asked in this section from 5 passages each presenting data in an easily understandable language. The questions asked were pretty predictable in nature. The passages demanded a very basic and general understanding of the issues related to contemporary and historical events.
Passage 1: This passage was based on the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919
The language of the passage was pretty straightforward and the questions related to the passage were direct and comprehension based.
Passage 2: This passage was based on the ongoing Israel-Palestine issue and sought to check the basic knowledge of students about current international events. The passage itself was moderate in length and required the students to have knowledge about the event and its history.
Passage 3: The passage revolved around current developments in the field of space and technology for India. The passage was short and the questions asked were direct. This was a topic that was anticipated and therefore, was not an element of surprise for the aspirants.
Passage 4:  This passage was based on the 18th G20 summit. While the length of the passage was moderate, the questions that were asked were very direct in nature. This again, was an anticipated topic.
Passage 5: This passage was based on the Constitution assembly and adoption of the constitution. This is a topic that most law school aspirants are aware about and along with the passage being short, the questions too were pretty easy. 
Unlike last year, this year’s GK section will not be a differentiating factor for the aspirants. There was a balance between both static and current GK and therefore, required aspirants to have a balanced approach towards the subject in general.

CLAT UG 2024 Analysis of Legal Reasoning Section

There were a total of 32 questions in this section. This year, there seemed to be an additional emphasis on this section with a few tricky questions here and there. The section was lengthy and touched upon subjects like the Juvenile Justice Act, Data Protection Act, Defamation etc.
Despite the length, one can say that the difficulty level of questions was easy. A decent attempt is anything in the range of 28-30 questions.
Passage 1: This passage was based on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The passage comprised of a total of 6 questions and all of them were easily doable and the answers could be easily deduced from the given passage.
Passage 2: This passage was based on online defamation and data laws in India. The questions that followed the passage could be solved based on basic comprehension skills.
Passage 3: This passage was based on the Press and Registration of Periodicals (PRP) Bill, 2023. This topics was recently in news and the difficulty level of this passage was moderate in nature. It had 6 questions and total and 4 out of 6 questions were pretty direct.
Passage 4: This passage talked about the recent Data Protection Act and its connection with the right to privacy. The passage was short but moderate in nature. 
Passage 5: This passage was based on the inheritance of property by children born out of void or voidable marriages. It had a total of 7 questions which were lengthy like the passage itself. This passage raised the difficulty level of the section.

CLAT UG 2024 Analysis of Logical Reasoning Section

The Logical Reasoning Section of CLAT 2024 paper had 4 passages with a total of 24 questions. The section can said to be easy to moderate in nature and the passages presented were neither too short nor too long. This year’s paper tested candidates’ ability to read and comprehend while managing time and making critical analyses as the section inclined heavily towards comprehension-based questions. An ideal attempt in this section would be 22-24 questions.
Passage 1: The options in this passage could be easily eliminated to find the correct answer and a mere cursory reading of the passage was enough to solve the questions. This passage was extremely easy and seemed more like a passage on Reading Comprehension rather than Logical Reasoning.
Passage 2: The passage was extracted from Times of India and dealt with concerns surrounding development of AI in India. While the passage was lengthy, the language was easy. However, the passage increased the difficulty level of the section in total.
Passage 3:  The difficulty level of this passage was definitely moderate with there being a short passage followed by 6 questions that tested the analytical skills of the aspirant. This passage was slightly more difficult in comparison to other passages in the section.
Passage 4: The passage was taken from Indian Express and had six questions in total. The questions that followed the passage seemed more like Reading-comprehension questions. The language as well as the length of the passage made it an easy one.

CLAT 2024 Quantitative Techniques Section Analysis

The Quantitative Section of CLAT 2024 consisted of two data sets with a total of 12 questions. The section was easy and had questions ranging from topics like percentage, ratio and proportion etc. The calculations might have taken time; however, the questions were fairly easy to solve.
CLAT 2024 Expected Cut-off Score: 78-95
