CLAT 2023 is exactly in 40 days. Still haven’t started preparing properly for it? Worried that it is too late? Well, it is not! 40 days is sufficient time to complete your preparation for CLAT. Read this article to find out how!
- Start giving mocks, starting with untimed ones
Before you start doing anything else, give one or two mocks. Since you have less time, this will help you get an idea of your strengths and weaknesses. Find out the sections you score well at, and the ones you don’t. Check if there’s a specific topic you don’t understand. Give untimed mocks at first. Check the time it takes you to complete all questions.
- Practice, Practice, Practice!
Even though theory is important, with limited time, practice must take priority. Get your hands on as many sample questions as you can. Check CLATalogue for a carefully curated collection of sample passages and questions. Take tests which are timed. Take topic tests, and sectional tests as well. Not only will this help with practicing new kinds of questions, it will also help you improve your speed.
- Understand what the exam wants you to know
Look at previous years papers. Check the CLAT consortium website. Analyse the syllabus and make a list of topics that have the most probability of being asked, and make sure that you do those first.

- SWOT analysis
Figure out your strengths and weaknesses. For topics you aren’t confident in, brush up on your concepts. Practice more on those topics. For each section, look at the past year papers, and sample mocks, and figure out the kind of questions that have been asked in the past. Practice those. Try to read fast, but comprehend as well. If you aren’t a fast reader, try saving time in some other area.
- Current Affairs
It is one of the most scoring sections in CLAT, and one that needs definite preparation, especially if you’ve just started studying for CLAT. Cover GK month-wise. Given the paucity of time, start with the most recent months and move back. For example, since CLAT 2023 is in December, May-November are especially vital months, with January/December, 2021 being the threshold. Utilise online resources for GK, if you don’t have other material. Compile a list of most important topics. This can definitely help you with revision, as the exam nears.

- Form a strategy
Understand that CLAT has negative marking, and a limited amount of time to answer questions. At least a week or two before CLAT, you should have the sequence of attempting sections ready. Try doing this as soon as possible and practice mocks with that order in mind. Doing the easiest sections first, and the toughest at the end is one way of forming a sequence. Experiment and choose one that works the best!
- Divide and Conquer!
Divide time between sections. Do not enter the exam hall still undecided upon the time. Fix the amount of time you will spend on any section, even if the questions are tougher. When that time elapses, move to the next section and try to do that faster. Come back to that section at the end. Save yourself some buffer time as well.
Prepare with a focused, concentrated mind. Don’t get distracted. Practice and you’ll see the results yourself.
