Taking CLAT this year and wondering how to prepare for the current affairs section? Here’s a list of important current affairs for the month October with tips and tricks on how you can score more.

1. First fully digitally literate village in India-

  • Pullampara Panchayat, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
  • Achieved through the ‘DigiPullampara’ project.
  • Launched in August, 2021.
  • Initiated by Panchayat President P.V Rajesh.
  • Kerala- 1st state to attain 100% literacy.

2. New Director-General of CRPF-

  • Sujoy Lal Thaosen.
  • 37th Director-General of CRPF.
  • CRPF- Central Reserve Police Force.
  • He succeeded Kuldiep Singh.
  • Approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by PM.CRPF headquarters: New Delhi.
  • Connected news: Read up on the different kinds of protection forces, such as RPF, SPG, etc.

3. New Iraqi President-

  • Abdul Latif Rashid, member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
  • 9th President of Iraq, after winning the 2022 elections by 162 votes.
  • Iraq PM- Mohammed Shia Al Sudani.
  • Iraq Capital: Baghdad.
  • Connected News: Read up on Iraq and Nuclear Weapons, including the Non-Proliferation Treaty, etc.

4. Booker Prize 2022-

  • Won by Sri Lankan Author Shehan Karunatilaka.
  • For his 2nd novel ‘The Seven Moons of Mali Almeida’.
  • It is about the murder of a war photographer during the civil war of Almeida.
  • The Booker Prize ceremony was held at the Roundhouse, London.
  • The trophy was presented by the Queen Consort of UK, Camilla.
  • The 2021 prize was won by Damon Galgut for ‘The Promise’.

5. Justice DY Chandrachud appointed as the 50th Chief Justice of India

  • He will succeed Justice UU Lalit.
  • CJI is appointed by the President under Art. 124(2).
  • 1st CJI: HJ Kania.
  • 1st Woman Chief Justice of a High Court: Leila Seth.
  • Longest serving CJI: YV Chandrachud.

6. New Congress President.

  • Mallikarjun Kharge is the new Congress President.
  • First non-Gandhi president in 24 years.
  • He replaced the former Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
  • He defeated his rival Shashi Tharoor in the elections.
  • This was the 1st election for the presidential post in 22 years.

7. India re-elected as ISA President.

  • India becomes the President of the International Solar Alliance again for 2 years.
  • France gets re-elected as the Vice-President.
  • Union Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister- R K Singh: President.
  • Chrysoula Zacharopoulou- France Minister of State(Vice President).
  • ISA Director- Ajay Mathur.
  • ISA Headquarters- Gurugram, Haryana.

8. Rishi Sunak becomes UK Prime Minister.

  • Conservative party leader.57th Prime Minister of UK.
  • He succeeded Liz Truss, who resigned after just 45 days in power.
  • Youngest Leader of the UK after PM William Pitt.
  • Connected News: Read up on the recent changes in power- like the resignations of Boris Johnson & Liz Truss.

9. Central Government notified amendments to the IT Rules, 2021

  • Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 or IT Rules, 2021 was notified by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY)
  • It replaced the rules regulating Social Media Intermediaries(SMIs)
  • The amendment paved the way for the establishment of Grievance Appellate Committees (GACs) within 3 months to help settle complaints without being dependent on the judiciary
  • GAC’s members are appointed by the Central Government which might create bias when it comes to moderation of content.
  • The IT Rules, 2021 also do not provide any explicit power to GAC to enforce its rulings.
