1. New CEO of Mercedes-Benz India appointed
- New MD and CEO- Santhosh Iyer.
- First Indian to serve as head of all operations.
- He will replace Martin Shwenk.
- Martin Shwenk will now be CEO of Mercedes-Benz Thailand.
- Connected News: Keep an eye out for any new appointments to major banks or corporations, they may be asked in CLAT or AILET.
2. Rajpath renamed as Kartavya Path
- Redeveloped 2 kilometers stretch from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhawan through Vijay Chowk.
- Earlier called Rajpath or Kingsway.
- This was seen as a symbol of slavery.
- Now named- Kartavya Path- This signifies public ownership and empowerment.
- Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose unveiled at India Gate. Crafted by Shri Arun Yogiraj.
3. Queen Elizabeth II passed away at 96.
- She was Britain’s longest serving monarch- 70 years.
- Passed away at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.
- Prince Charles is now the King of England. Officially known as King Charles III.
- Her death invoked the application of Operation London Bridge– which includes the plan of action regarding the public announcement of her death, the period of official mourning, and the details of her state funeral.

4. Vanessa Nakate appointed as Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF.
- Vanessa Nakate is a 25-year old climate activist from Uganda.

- Founded in 1946.
5. Italy’s first female Prime Minister- Giorgia Meloni.
- Leader of the far right nationalist Fratelli d’Italia party- which means Brothers of Italy.
- President of Italy- Sergio Mattarella.
- Capital of Italy- Rome.
6. Supreme Court’s stand on legal abortion.
- Held that women, regardless of marital status, are entitled to abortion until 24 weeks of pregnancy.
- Differentiation between a married and unmarried woman was held to be artificial and constitutionally unsustainable.
- Abortions in India regulated under Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971.
- Court interpreted Section 3(2)(b) of the Act, which gives the categories of women who can abort after 20 weeks, to include unmarried women.
- This was done to protect the right to equality.
- SC also clarified that the term ‘women’ also relates to persons other than cis-women.
7. Global Innovation Index, 2022.
- Switzerland topped it for the 12th consecutive year. USA came second.
- India has obtained the 40th rank.
- GII is released by the World Intellectual Property Organisation(WIPO).
- WIPO was established through the 1967 WIPO convention.
- Headquarters: Geneva, Switzerland.
- Director-General: Daren Tang.
8. New Attorney-General of India.
- R. Venkataramani has been appointed as the new Attorney-General of India.
- Term of three years.
- He succeeded K.K. Venugopal.
- Attorney-Generals are appointed by the President of India under Article 76 of the Indian Constitution.
- They are the highest law officer in the country.
9. India is now world’s fifth largest economy.
- The largest economy is USA.
- Here are the top 5 economies: USA- China- Japan- Germany- India.
- India overtook UK.
- A decade ago, India was ranked 11th.
