Mock tests play an important role in preparing for the CLAT PG entrance examination. They do not just aim to prepare an aspirant for the actual entrance exam; they also give the aspirant an edge to handle a variety of questions, manage time effectively, and improve accuracy.
Types of Mock Tests
Mock tests are of 2 types. They are as follows:
- Sectional Mock Tests
- Full Length Mock Tests
Approach Towards Each Type of Mock Test
Sectional mock tests can be attempted after completing each concept to build a strong foundation for handling various laws appropriately and in accordance with the requirements of the questions.
On the other hand, when it comes to full-length mock tests, they should be conducted regularly, even before the completion of the syllabus.
This prepares an aspirant’s mind to deal with a variety of questions and laws. It keeps track of the number of questions that can be attempted within a fixed time while maintaining the required accuracy to excel in this exam.
Solving Mock Tests
When it comes to solving mock tests, there is a belief that, before studying for the exam, one should study the exam. In the past few years, the CLAT PG has been more judgment-oriented, with a passage-based examination.
Also, the papers are either 24 passages with 5 questions each or 12 passages with 10 questions each.
To fulfil this requirement, there are 2 methods to solve the mock tests. They are as follows:
Method 1
In the first method, the passages can be read in a scanning fashion. This helps note down the important words from the passage that give the essence of the questions. Next, the passage needs to be carefully read to understand its meaning.
Method 2
In the second method, instead of approaching the passage first, questions can be addressed to understand what the passage is trying to convey and whether some questions can be solved without the aid of the passage. This is considered the most popular method among many aspirants.
Evaluation of Mock Tests
When attempting mock tests, it’s important to remember that not all questions are in the question paper to be solved. Some are placed to create confusion and waste aspirants’ time. So that you know, these questions need to be addressed.
In competitive entrance exams like CLAT PG, taking risks has its pros and cons. The positive aspect of taking risks is that it can fetch you marks, but the negative aspect is that it can negatively impact your score if the target does not hit the bull’s eye. So, the approach to every question needs to be calculative.
Now, when it comes to evaluating mock tests, after solving each mock, it is the prime responsibility of every aspirant to revisit it and study every question accurately to differentiate their approach from the question’s demand.
For example, if an aspirant takes 2 hours to complete the mock test, he needs to spend at least another 2 hours evaluating and revisiting it to understand it better.
Concluding Remarks
Mock tests help an aspirant prepare for exams comprehensively. There is a myth around mock tests that the more mock tests you solve, the more prepared you are for the exam.
But the truth is that, solving large numbers of mock tests is not important; the vital part is attempting mock tests with accuracy, visiting them and increasing your number of attempted questions in every mock test is important, and that is what counts in a healthy, progressive and determined journey towards excelling in the CLAT PG examination.
