The first choice of any law aspirant interested in pursuing L.L.M. in India are top NLUs and CLAT PG is the only exam through which one can take admission to these colleges.
CLAT PG, with its evolving patterns, has adopted a comprehension-based format. Excerpts including legal information (with some omissions and clues) are stated, followed by a set of questions from the preceding excerpt or passage. After analyzing question papers from CLAT 2020 until now, I have come up with certain strategies that can be implemented at the last minute to ace the exam.
Of course, nothing can replace consistent studies through years of law school, especially considering this exam tests your legal analytical skills more than anything else. However, it is not impossible to crack the exam with 40 days of consistent preparation by following these tips.
- TIP 1- Make a list of landmark judgments for at least the past year.
Try to make a list month-wise by listing the case name, Bench, and ratio decidendi of the case. Dissenting opinion, if any, must be noted. Cases with constitutional significance must be stressed upon. If time permits, try to go back to the previous year as well, i.e., 2021.
- TIP 2- List all major amendments in laws in the last 2-3 years.
Make a list of all the major amendments of laws in general for CLAT 2023. Some examples are UAPA (Amendment) Act, 2019, RTI (Amendment) Act, 2019, IT Rules-Amendment of 2021 etc! There are also talks of new IPC, CrPC drafts!
- TIP 3- Do not forget to learn about the landmark Constitutional Amendments!
Constitution remains key for CLAT PG examination. The key amendments, like the 1st, 42nd, 44th, 103rd Constitutional Amendment Act etc. among many others must be revised for their key changes and the aftermath.
- TIP 4- Use your time wisely!
Make use of online resources to the maximum to aid your preparation in the last few weeks. While you may not have a lot of time to go through books, you can always refer to notes and online videos for concepts!
- TIP 5-Ensure that you know about the International Conventions (and other instruments) that have been in the news!
Analyze the Indian laws that have been enacted as a consequence of International Conventions. For instance, whether the Information Technology Rules as amended in February 2021 violate the provisions of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) may be important to this examination.
Follow these steps and practice the sample questions on our website to test your preparation from time to time!
