How to Prepare for the First Year of Law School?

You’ve cleared CLAT/AILET/one of the multiple law entrances and have taken admission in a law school. Now what? How do you prepare for the first year of law school?

Well, here’s a list of things you should keep in mind as you start:

Maybe studying one day before the exam worked out for you as a school student. But as a law student, it won’t. The process of teaching in a university differs a lot, and hence, you need to be focused from Day 1.

Make notes in a way you understand, you won’t find a ‘one book solution’ here. Teachers teach from a variety of resources, and it’s difficult to keep track of all them. Ask questions if you have doubts, don’t hesitate.

While they wouldn’t really matter in the long run, to reach that, you need to pass obstacles where they may matter. Your grades show up on your CV, and can matter in applying for good internships.

Cases, Articles, Research papers, textbooks- just a few lengthy texts you’ll have to read. Get in the habit of reading, and you won’t face a lot of problems.

Throughout your years at a law school, you’ll come across numerous people with diverse backgrounds, who come from all parts of India and even the world.

Some of them might be people who can help you out in the future. Try to acquaint yourself with as many people as you can. Don’t be afraid of asking for advice.

Remember that law school experiences are different for everyone, and you have the power to make yours a good one. Stay on your toes, stay observant, learn and adapt, and don’t be afraid to try new things.
