Conversation with Pragya Prashant from Chandigarh University on her life as a First Year Student in Law School
In this conversation with CLATalogue, Pragya Prashant from Chandigarh University talks about her life as a First Year Student in Law School
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hello, My name is Pragya Prashant and I’m currently pursing my BBA LLB from Chandigarh University, Punjab. I grew up in Ranchi, Jharkhand and recently took the CLAT in 2022, but unfortunately, I did not clear it. Therefore, I decided to take admission in Chandigarh University, which is one of the top universities in North India.
How were your initial years in the law school?
My first semester at law school did not go as I had imagined it would. I felt like I didn’t belong there and was not myself. But slowly I started making friends and focused on my academics. Driven by my fascination for law, I have been exploring various subjects in the field through internships and moot courts.
What motivated you to pursue law as a career? Tell us a bit about your experience while taking the entrance test for admission into law school.
Law always seemed to be a good fit. Law offers the opportunity to enable a successful professional and contribute in the well being of the society and also lawyers are considered as highly respected professionals in Indian society who fight for justice.
I prepared for CLAT in just 3 months with materials and my mentor’s help. I took 2-3 mock tests a day, timed myself, and improved my speed and accuracy. I could attempt all 150 questions but didn’t get the time to revise.
The CLAT exam is highly competitive exam with thousands of students vying for limited seats in the top NLU which creates high-pressure among the students. I did consistent revision for several hours each and tried to work on my problem-solving skills and decision making skills mostly.
What were your top 3 sources of information while preparing for the law entrance exam? Did you prepare for the exam all by yourself?
I prepared for my exams using Unacademy, attending regular classes, and practicing sample papers frequently. The process helped me to gain deeper knowledge about law and also practicing thoroughly also helped me to feel confident in my abilities and boosted my confidence.
What would you say sets apart your story from others?
I think everyone has a different and unique journey in their life and everyone deals with it differently in their own way. For me my law school journey was a bit difficult as I take time to get comfortable in a new environment and adapt to it. But after some time, I got involved with the new people and the new environment.
Any advice you’d like to pass on to law school aspirants and law students?
I would say that be focused on your career and don’t get distracted from your path. Be clear with what you want to do in your life and do everything and anything to make it a reality. Practice writing and reading skills as it is every essential for doing better in the law field.
