This interview is conducted by Jessica Benita Immanuel, a student editor at Lawctopus.
In an exam ecosystem where preparation is measured in months, Moulya K.S. had just 30 days and no room for hesitation. What began as a quiet decision to “just try” soon became a disciplined, high-stakes commitment powered by clarity, confidence, and calculated strategy. With relentless mock practice, selective study, and an unshakeable mindset under pressure, she turned limited time into her greatest advantage.
Today, as a student at National Law School of India University, her story stands as proof that sometimes it’s not about how long you prepare, it’s about how fiercely you believe when it counts.
In the conversation that follows, she reflects on discipline, doubt, and the decisions that changed everything.

Be honest—what made you think, “Yeah, I can crack CLAT in one month”?

Honestly, I wouldn’t say I was 100% confident in the beginning. It was the belief and clarity I had in myself that made me decide to go for it. I knew the time was limited, but I also understood that CLAT is more about how you think and make decisions under pressure than how long you prepare.
That belief came from being honest with myself about where I stood. Instead of panicking about everything I didn’t know, I focused on what I could realistically improve in a short time. Once I shifted my mindset that way, giving it my best didn’t feel impossible.

Did this start as a serious plan or a “let’s see what happens” moment?

Given the very little time I had, it definitely started as a “let’s see what happens” moment. But as I started preparing, that “let’s see” slowly turned into a “you have to see this through” moment.
In the beginning, there was uncertainty, but I felt it was better to try than regret not starting at all. As I prepared consistently, that casual thought turned into a serious commitment.

If your one-month prep had a movie title, what would it be?

For a fun vibe, I’d say “One Month Later,” as the meme goes. But personally, I’d call it “The Last Shot.” It truly felt like one chance where I had to give everything I had without overthinking the outcome.
That thought kept me grounded and helped me stay present every single day.

What did a typical day in your CLAT prep life look like—chaotic, disciplined, or controlled madness?

I would say it was controlled madness, with a balance of discipline and flexibility. Some days were highly intense, some were relaxed, but none were lazy or treated like an off day.
I realised early on that burnout wouldn’t help me. So I stayed flexible while being consistent on lighter days, I still made sure to do something productive, like revising current affairs or practising a few QT questions.

Any study hacks that saved you precious time (and sanity)?

Yes, there was one major hack. Since I had only one month, instead of reading every GK topic, I watched the most important topics covering the previous four to six months on YouTube. This helped me save time and retain information better. I accepted that selective studying was smarter than trying to cover everything and feeling overwhelmed.
Another thing that helped a lot was taking mocks almost every day and analysing them immediately. When you have just one month, you don’t have the luxury of taking one or two mocks a week. You have to practise more, and practise smarter.

Did you ever feel like quitting mid-prep?

No, I didn’t even think about quitting. First, I was too committed to even consider it, and second, I genuinely didn’t have the time for negative thoughts.
With such limited time, every hour mattered. Staying mentally focused was just as important as studying, and quitting never felt like an option.

How did you deal with the pressure of knowing time was not on your side?

As the saying goes, “You cannot control what is not in your hands.” I accepted that reality and planned my time very carefully and with a lot of precision.
Once I stopped stressing about things I couldn’t control, I felt calmer. That acceptance helped me work more efficiently instead of studying in panic mode.

How did you feel when you found out you got into NLSIU?

It felt like a dream come true. Everything felt unreal, there was disbelief at first, then relief, and finally pride. Seeing the people who trusted me and believed in me feel proud made all the effort worth it.
It wasn’t just about the college. It was validation that trusting myself, even when the odds felt uncertain, was worth it in the end.

What did this one-month journey teach you about yourself?

This journey taught me many things I didn’t even know I had in me. It showed me that I can handle pressure, uncertainty, and doubt, manage time well, and stay calm in difficult situations.
More than anything, it taught me to trust myself. That lesson will stay with me far beyond this exam.

Do you think confidence matters as much as preparation? Why?

Yes, absolutely. Preparation gives you the tools, but confidence decides how you use them under pressure.
Without confidence, even good preparation can fall apart in the exam hall. Confidence helped me stay calm and trust my decisions when it mattered most.

What would you say to someone who thinks it’s “too late” to start CLAT prep?

There’s a line by my favourite artist, Taylor Swift, that goes, “Today is never too late to be brand new. The moment you decide to start seriously, you already change the direction of your journey. It’s never too late if you choose to begin.

Biggest myth about CLAT preparation you’d like to bust?

The biggest myth is that CLAT needs a perfect, foolproof strategy. In reality, CLAT tests your mindset and how you perform inside the exam hall.
No plan goes exactly as expected. What matters more than rigid strategies is how well you adapt, stay calm, and make decisions in real time.

One piece of advice for students who want to aim high but doubt themselves.

Doubt is normal, don’t let it decide your actions. Start anyway.
Confidence often comes after effort, not before. Taking that first step changes everything.

Lastly, if CLAT were a person, what would you say to it today?

You tested my patience, confidence, and limits, but you also showed me what I’m capable of. So, thanks for all the lessons. You’ll always be more than just a chapter in my diary.
