If you’ve gone through the question papers of CLAT and AILET 2023, you must have noticed the high percentage of questions asked from Vocabulary, which was a distinct change from the expected pattern. 1. Serried

Meaning: pressed together
Synonyms: congested, brimming, crammed
Antonyms: deserted, clear, empty

2. Risible

Meaning: arousing or provoking laughter
Synonyms: amusing, ludicrous, comical
Antonyms: serious, unfunny

3. Moribund

Meaning: no longer effective
Synonyms: inactive, stagnant
Antonyms: thriving, recovering

4. Idiosyncrasy

Meaning: unusual feature
Synonyms: eccentricity, trait
Antonyms: normality, usualness

5. Enthuse

Meaning: to make somebody feel excited and encouraged
Synonyms: motivate, encourage, spur
Antonyms: apathetic, indifferent, nonchalant.

6. Febrile

Meaning: Nervous or excited
Synonyms:Tense, edgy, fidgety, flushed, jittery
Antonyms: cold, freezing

7. Proliferate

Meaning: grow rapidly
Synonyms: breed, expand, escalate, multiply
Antonyms: shrink, decrease

8. Deportment

Meaning: how a person behaves and presents themselves.
Synonyms: comportment, bearing, conduct, posture.


9. Vicissitude

Meaning: variation in circumstances or fortune
Synonyms: Fluctuation, permutation, alteration, mutability
Antonyms: Similarity, stagnation, uniformity, stability

10. Contrivance

Meaning: some gadget or device created through use of imagination
Synonyms: concoction, artifice, contraption, gimmick
Antonyms: replica, facsimile, duplication

11. Gravitas

Meaning: seriousness and dignity
Synonyms: seriousness, intentness, solemnity, graveness
Antonyms: flippency, levity, facetiousness

12. Jeremiad

Meaning: long and mournful complaint
Synonyms: diatribe, screed, harangue, vituperation
Antonyms: compliment, praise, flattery

13. Ingenious

Meaning: smart and clever
Synonyms: creative, resourceful, shrewd, skillful
Antonyms: foolish, open, dull

14. Ingenuous

Meaning: innocent and naive
Synonyms: artless, candid, frank
Antonyms: deceitful, dishonest

15. Intransigence

Meaning: refusal to change one’s feelings
Synonyms: inflexibility, obstinacy, bullheadedness, contumacy
Antonyms: pliant, flexible, yielding.
