If you’ve gone through the question papers of CLAT and AILET 2023, you must have noticed the high percentage of questions asked from Vocabulary, which was a distinct change from the expected pattern.

1. Affinity

Meaning: a natural attraction or feeling of kinship
Synonyms: rapport, compatibility
Antonyms: dislike, aversion

2. Appease

Meaning: make peace with
Synonyms: conciliate, mollify, placate, pacify
Antonyms: aggravate, provoke, inflame

3. Brink

Meaning: edge of a steep place
Synonyms: verge, fringe, periphery, threshold, margin, border
Antonyms: center, interior

4. Browbeat

Meaning: discourage or frighten with a threat or domineering manner
Synonyms: intimidate, badger, harass, strong-arm
Antonyms: encourage, convince, reassure

5. Caprice

Meaning: a sudden desire
Synonyms: whim, vagary, fancy, crotchet, fad
Antonyms: constant, steadfast, stable

6. Consternation

Meaning: a sudden shock or dismay that causes confusion
Synonyms: distress, concern, tension, anxiety
Antonyms: contentment, tranquility, peace, placidity

7. Vicissitude

Meaning: a variation in circumstances
Synonyms: fluctuation, permutation, alteration
Antonyms: stagnation, uniformity

8. Wheedle

Meaning: influence by gentle urging
Synonyms: cajole, finagle, entice
Antonyms: dissuade

9. Vitiate

Meaning: spoil or impair or make imperfect
Synonyms: annihilate, abolish, quash, abrogate
Antonyms: allow, ratify, approve, permit

10. Umbrage

Meaning: anger caused by being offended
Synonyms: ire, annoyance, displeasure, rage, resentment
Antonyms: cheer, glee, happiness
