In Conversation with Yashashvi Mishra from University of Allahabad on Pursuing Law as a Career
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Yashashvi and I belong to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. I’m pursuing B. A. LL. B (Hons.) from University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Currently I’m in my 3rd year 5th semester. Till now I’ve participated in 2 Moot Court competitions and done various offline as well as online internships and also participated in various quizzes, debates, speeches etc.
How did you start your journey in the field of law?
My grandfather always wanted to pursue law as a career, but due to his father’s pressure he couldn’t do so. In order to fulfill his dream, I choose law as a career. I had appeared in various entrance exams like CLAT, AILET, BHU entrance exam, Lucknow University entrance exam and Allahabad University entrance exam also. Out of which I had only cleared CLAT, LU & AU entrance exam. Since NLUO was way far from my city, my parents didn’t allow me to go, so I chose to study in Allahabad University itself.
How were your initial years in the law school?
My initial years weren’t that satisfactory because I was making myself accustomed to law subjects and law school environment. The few friends which I’d made in earlier days weren’t the ones I wished for. So later on when time passed and I learnt more, I participated and interacted more, then I started feeling comfortable in my law college.
What motivated you to pursue law as a career?
My passion to work towards my grandfather’s dream motivated me a lot to pursue law as a career. I’m the child who can do anything to make their family proud, so each and every step I take in the field of law is regarding bringing them pride.
What were your top 3 sources of information while preparing for the law entrance exam? Did you prepare for the exam all by yourself?
My top three sources of information while preparing for the law entrance exam were – firstly, newspapers as it improved my general knowledge a lot and always kept me aware of the day to day national and international happenings. Secondly, NCERTs helped me a lot in my general studies and lastly, the law books which made me fall in love with law.
What would you say sets apart your story from others?
My story is set apart from others in the way that many people would maybe be upset about the fact that they didn’t get a seat at the top NLUs even though they appeared for CLAT, but I do not. I find my journey to be full of learning and when we have the ability of performing wonders then it doesn’t really matter in which college we’re in.
Any advice you’d like to pass on to law school aspirants and law students?
Be true to yourself! I have always carried this thought with me since my school days. When you are aware of the good and bad things about you, then nothing in this entire world can pull you back from emerging victorious and you’ll ace in whatever you do.
